Mobile Mural

Danny Martin has painted three murals on a delivery truck.  I found it at the Sonoran Brunch Co.

Here are the four photos I took on Feb. 24, 2020.

Can they squeeze in more murals?

Driving through the Menlo Park neighborhood in July, 2016, you might have noticed this home on Fresno Street with a few bits of art:



When Mark Fleming drove by less than a year later, the home had sprouted portraits of (people I think are all) entertainers: Music murals around the house. (Click there to see the blog entry, use your “Back’ button to return.)

I was in the neighborhood May 9th of this year… and wow!

I'm guessing that the homeowner is still an artist. The guitar next to the front door in Mark's photos is gone. Here are the east (first) and west sides of the front of the house:

I forgot to check the driveway side (to the right of the second photo above). I'll have to go back, anyway, to see what's changed in the future! Stay tuned.

Life in the Desert

These three mosaic murals were found outside the Visitor Center of the Saguaro National Park East.  They were created by Gail Roberts and Colleen Conlin.  Photographed on April 9, 2020.

For those of you who may not know, the Pipevine Swallowtail is a butterfly.  They are common in Tucson during the warmer parts of the year.  If you're interested, here's a link for photos and more information:  Pipevine Swallowtail

La Chaiteria, Part II

Last time, David Aber posted photos of murals on the east side of La Chaiteria, a vegan restaurant west of downtown. The south side has four rolling steel shutters, and two of them have murals:

I took these photos early on May 9th. I'll try to check back to see if they've painted the other shutters.

La Chaiteria, Part I

La Chaiteria is a vegan restaurant at 1002 W. Congress St.

Photographed the four murals on its east wall on Mar. 23, 2020.

A fifth mural was added later and photographed by Jerry Peek on July 7, 2020.

Graffiti Mural, Part II

A residence at 7102 E. 34th St. has what I call a Graffiti Mural on its west and south walls.  The west wall was posted on July 7, 2020 as Part I.  This will be the south wall.  The south wall photos were taken on March 15, 2020.

Graffiti Mural, Part I

A residence at 7102 E. 34th St. has what I call a Graffiti Mural on its west and south walls.  This will be the west wall.  The south wall will be posted next week.  Photos of both walls were taken on March 15, 2020.  However, the west wall had an addition to its mural which required a re-shoot on June 9.

Chicago Bar closes

The Chicago Bar (not the Chicago Store downtown) has bright murals that may soon be no more. The Arizona Daily Star wrote on June 22nd: Chicago Bar closes for good in Tucson citing pandemic's financial strain. Here are closeups of the murals:

As you can see from the shadows on the mural above, the figures are cut out and anchored over the wall.

I was there on May 10th.

"Poison Ivy"

She's a supervillain appearing in the Batman comics and movies.  She's now on the west wall of Wooden Tooth Records.

Re-CBD

On April 22, 2019, David Aber visited 79th Floor, where (among other things) you can get CBD oil. He posted photos on August 30, 2019. When I stopped by on April 10 of this year, the mural on the north wall of the building had changed:

Youth On Their Own

Near the southeast corner of Pima and Alvernon is a complex of two buildings with a parking lot between. It's called Youth on their Own. On the south side is their mini-mall, at 1642-B North Alvernon; an Isaac Caruso mural graces the north wall of that building with a young woman graduate and saguaro blossoms:

The north side has another building, at 1660 North Alvernon; a long wall stretches from it toward Alvernon. On the wall is a mural with the theme of blowing a seed off of a dandelion. It's hard to see the whole thing from a distance:

The right-hand end looks to me like a stylized flower. Next to it is a dandelion, with seeds floating toward the left end of the mural. Here's the view from the left:

Nice, isn't it? It was painted by Porter McDonald; he calls it “Flight.”

I was there on April 10th.

Update (December 7, 2021): The Arizona Daily Star's online section #ThisIsTucson has published a story about Youth On Their Own: For three decades, this Tucson-area nonprofit has helped homeless teens navigate life.

Update (May 3, 2024): Today's post shows a long mural at YOTO's new administration building, a few miles away from here on Country Club Road, painted sometime in the past year.

Via de Cristo (The Way of Christ)

Shower Trailer on the grounds of the "Streams in the Desert Lutheran Church".  The trailer is used by the Church's outreach ministry and provides a place for the needy to shower.

The artist is unknown as I'm not familiar with the ID symbol in the lower right.

Flying murals

Driving along eastbound Valencia Road, almost to Kolb Road, the Pima Air & Space Museum is on your right. Poke your camera lens through the fence, or hoist it over the top, to catch photos of planes painted with murals. The planes are grounded, and the museum is closed during the COVID-19 pandemic, so that's the best view you'll get. I saved you the drive:
