A helping hand at Parent Aid (Murals being made, part 79)

Last time, we saw a mural downtown by Germaine A Pesqueria, New at English Salon & Spa. He started another mural in January 2024 at Parent Aid — on 22nd Street just east of Tucson Boulevard. I stopped by on January 28th to see the mural in progress:

He posted this nighttime photo to his Facebook that evening:
(He hadn't finished the left hand yet.)

A few months later — May 9, 2024 — I stopped by near sunset to see the finished mural:
The right edge of the mural, around and beyond the fence, is darkness (and also in the late afternoon shade here). Germaine wrote me that the mural is “a visual narrative of transformation and hope, depicting a young soul leaving behind the shadows of sadness to step into a radiant future filled with possibilities.”

Two closeups:

He's painted shadows of plants on the mural; there are also real shadows.

New at English Salon & Spa

On November 19, 2021 we showed a mural by on the roll-up shutter of English Salon & Spa, downtown. On April 7, 2024, I noticed this new mural:
It's Audrey Hepburn.

Here's the signature from the lower right corner:
The artist, Germaine A Pesquiera, has painted murals in Tucson for decades. He sent the photos below. (Thanks!)

(I enlarged those photos 2x using Upscale from https://www.stickermule.com/upscale/. It's currently free to use a limited amount each day.)

Next time, we'll see another new mural of Germaine's at Parent Aid.

South Tucson fire station update

Not long after I posted South Tucson fire station on May 19th, the artist who was leading the scouts left a comment saying that the mural wasn't quite finished when I photographed it:

Today I've updated that post and added new close-up photos. (Click on the post's name to see them.)

South Tucson fire station (murals being made, part 19)

I read Arizona Daily Star reporter Kimberly Matas’ story Scouts battle graffiti with South Tucson mural in today's paper. The story didn't include a photo, though. So I went right over to the northwest corner of West 27th Street & South 5th Avenue — just behind the police and fire station — to see the mural and grab a photo:

Update (June 1, 2013): Here are close-ups after the mural was completed (as usual, you can click on a photo for an even bigger view):

For a bonus, there's an old fire engine parked next to the mural:

The article says that muralist Germaine Pesquiera guided the members of Girl Scout Troop 645, along with troop leader Pilar Ruiz. Thanks, folks, for another great piece of South Tucson street art!

Paradise on Kolb

The west side of the Chuy's location at 22nd & Kolb (7101 E. 22nd) has ocean scenes below its palm trees.

On the other side of the building, at the southeast corner, are this downspout painted to look like a palm tree and an adventure map of Mexico.

I took the first photo on July 19th and the last two on September 26th.

Update (January 28, 2024): Germaine A Pesqueria (who's been painting since the 1990s) painted murals at all Chuy's locations.

Just a day too late for Chuy's

We're back from the archives (for a couple of days). Tuesday, I spotted murals on the west side of the now-closed Chuy's along Country Club at Speedway. Wednesday, thinking that I should go back and grab some photos before something happened, I drove by. But...

...too late. (By the way, there are more murals on the north and east sides, but they were trashed too.)

I happened to ride by the Patrick K. Hardesty Midtown Service Center at 1100 S. Alvernon and saw a sign that they maybe should have put up at Chuy's :-(...

Update (January 28, 2024): Germaine A Pesqueria (who's been painting since the 1990s) painted murals at all Chuy's locations. I'm hoping he has photos of these murals; I'll ask.
