BG Boyd's latest Tucson mural video

BG Boyd Photography has lots of photos and videos (many taken from drones) of Tucson murals. BG posted his video Tucson Murals 10 last week, June 15:

BG Boyd's amazing mural database

Aerial and ground photographer BG Boyd takes videos and photos from drones and from land. If you've been reading this blog for a while, you've seen some of his work.

When he answered a question on Facebook, I saw that he'd linked to a part of his website I'd forgotten about. It's a searchable database of 150+ murals he's photographed. The top looks like this (click if you'd like a larger view):
The top level of the database is here:

I keep coming across more collections of Tucson murals. I'm aiming to post another one tomorrow. If you have any favorites, please use the "Contact Us" boxes at the right margin of this blog to let us know.

Joe Pagac paints his old neighborhood (Murals being made, part 65)

Joe Pagac grew up in the neighborhood right across the street from Himmel Park. So he was excited to paint a mural on the swimming pool there. He finished it earlier this summer. I took that photo of the finished mural on July 26th. (As always, you can click on the photo for a larger view.)

Thanks to BG Boyd Photo for these photos of the mural taking shape:
Here are the other photos I took on July 26th, from the left (north) end to the right (south):

8th Avenue & 36th Street from above

BG Boyd Photo specializes in aerial photos taken from a drone. This painted intersection by Mel Melo Dominguez, near Mission View Elementary in South Tucson, is a perfect candidate:
The fourth corner is covered by a tree. Here's a shot I took from ground level on July 23rd:

Both sides of this mural magnet on Toole

The building that spans the addresses 191-197 E. Toole in downtown Tucson has had many different murals over the years… you can see a number of them by clicking the links in our page “Layers of murals: histories of a few walls.”: Northwest side of 191 East Toole and East side of 197 East Toole. BG Boyd took photos of both ends — 191 and 197 — at the end of May, 2021. Here are his photos of 191, then 197:
The second photo is a panorama, stitched together from several shots. (As always, you can click on a photo for a larger view.) We'll see more of his photos one week from today.

See it while you can

BG Boyd is a Part 107 certified drone photographer based in Tucson. He's shared a number of his photos of Tucson murals (from his website BG Boyd Photo) with all of us on this blog. This post is the first of a series of his photos from land, aerial photos and videos. I'll also be updating some earlier posts on this blog with his aerial photos; after I'm done with that, I'll post a list of the ones I updated. In the meantime, check his website (link above) for a number of aerial mural videos and other photos… he's also on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.

This Arizona Arts Live mural by Robb Harris is on a building that's about to be demolished. It's lost some paint since BG took this photo:

Sahuarita murals from BG Boyd Photo

Photographer BG Boyd has a lot of Tucson murals on his website! You'll be seeing some of them here a bit later this year.

This blog usually doesn't show murals outside of Tucson. But, when BG emailed yesterday to say that he has a new Sahuarita page on his website, I realized that I could publish a link here to let you see them if you'd like. Many are by Tucson artists:

Goodbye, Corbett Elementary

For years, Corbett Elementary School has had a mural on a long east-facing wall. You can see photos in our April 2, 2010 post Cactus and city at Corbett School. The school closed in 2014, but the mural has stayed. Not anymore. Pepper Viner Homes will be building homes there.

David Aber took the photo below on May 17, 2017. (As always, you can click on it for a larger view.)
I first found out about the closing and demolition on the BG Boyd Photo website. BG emailed the aerial photo (thanks!). Here it is:
When I stopped by yesterday, the mural was still there… but I also saw heavy equipment. I got there in time!

I won't repeat the photos that are in the 2010 blog post. But here are a few that I took yesterday. They're a bit rough because I had to either hold my camera in the air or shoot through the fence:

Murals being made, part 63: Connections

This mural of a young girl is on the campus of the Community Foundation of Southern Arizona. "It represents the diversity of southern arizona and the purpose of the foundation to connect people of all walks of life to learn and grow together." David Aber took the photo:

By Ignacio Garcia

This aerial YouTube video from BG Boyd Photography shows the mural in progress:

Murals being made, part 60: "Now Hiring"

A similar mural at this location (The Tool Spot) was posted on June 15, 2018.  It was painted over in Aug., 2018.  Here's the link:  Now Hiring

A new mural with the same theme was begun in Feb. of 2021.  This first look was photographed on Feb. 24, 2021 and shows the new mural in progress.  It is being painted by Robin Parnell.

This second look shows further progress on Mar. 2, 2021.

Here's yet another look at the unfinished mural.  It's an aerial view from April 4th courtesy of BG Boyd Photography. And here's a link to other murals by BG Boyd:  https://bgboydphoto.com/murals

Almost finished on May 9, 2021.

Finished at last and photographed on May 22, 2021.

Murals being made, part 62: More animals on bicycles

Joe Pagac is at it again!

He posted that photo to Instagram on March 10th as he and co-muralists were starting to paint animals on bicycles over a rainbow-covered background along Court Avenue, just north of Alameda.

BG Boyd Photography sent the spectacular panorama below of the finished mural. As always, you can click on the photo for a larger version. You can also see all of BG's photos of the mural at https://bgboydphoto.com/murals/el_tour_de_tucson.
I stopped by the mural site on March 14th to see what was new:
He's painted other murals with animals on bikes. The best-known is his Epic Rides mural (from the blog entry Murals being made, part 46c: Tucson's biggest):

Let's look at the whole mural in progress on March 14th from left (north end) to right (south end). As always, you can click on a photo for a slideshow of larger views:
A week later, on March 21, I read that the mural was finished. Here are views from the north end looking south, then the south end looking north:
Finally, the finished mural from left (north) to right (south):

Tanked

250,000 gal. water tank painted by Joe Pagac. Located on the Tanque Verde Ranch at the east terminus of Speedway Blvd. Photographed on 04/29/2020.

At distance, it is designed to blend into the desert environs.
Click on either photo for larger and sharper images.

Photos of the mural being made are in our November 7, 2019 entry A mural that hides something.

A similar tank mural in Oro Valley is (was?) in the January 5, 2009 entry These Murals Tank!

Update (March 26, 2021): I found an aerial view from BG Boyd Photography, who sent me a larger version:
After BG took the photo, the property owner said the mural is on private property and chased him away. Interesting info — and photo — much appreciated!

Sonoran Brunch Co.

The Sonoran Brunch Co. has recently opened a Diner that replaces Poco & Mom's on S. Kolb Rd.  The mural is on a shipping container on the south side of the building.

Photographed on Oct. 17, 2019
Painted by Danny Martin

Update (June 27, 2021): BG Boyd Photography sent two more photos of the mural:
Update (June 7, 2022): Ken Kroeger (click there to visit his Facebook page) sent a high-resolution photo of the mural. I've cropped out parts of it to show more detail:

Thank you, Ken!
