Wildlife, 3 of 3

Jos Villabrille has redone his very long mural next to the on-ramp from Irvington Rd. onto northbound I-19.  Here's a link to the original mural: Amazing mural.

With one or two exceptions, each section of the wall is a mural unto itself. I've settled on 12 photos that I took on Sept. 26 and will present in 3 installments.  This is the third and last, so let's finish and have a beer:
Gambel's Quail and Hummingbird
Hummingbird, Lizard and a Desert Bighorn
Previous two photos stitched together
Coyote

Also, an even larger, sharper and scrollable version of the stitched photo may be found here: Wildlife, 9 of 10

Enjoy your beer.

Guadalajara Mexican Grill on Broadway

Just in time for Thanksgiving, here's a food mural located at 4901 E. Broadway Blvd.
The artist is Jos Villabrille.
Photographed May 28, 2016.

Update (January 29, 2017): I (Jerry) just added a new entry, due to go online February 17, 2017, called Guadalajara Mexican Grill on Prince.

Our 1,000th post: Jos at Park Place mall

Eight and a half years have gone by since our first entry on The Tucson Murals Project — July 12, 2006. Randy Garsee, the longtime Tucson TV news anchor who founded this blog, wanted to spread the news about Tucson's murals. Now, you'll find one thousand entries here — and more than 1,000 murals, since some entries show more than one mural. There are plenty more to come!

In post #1000, we'll take a look at spectacular murals by one of Tucson's most prolific muralists, Jos Villabrille. He painted three-dimensional Sonoran Desert scenes — most of them two-sided — at the ends of Park Place mall concourses. Let's start with the southeast entrance, near unit 270:

Looking up from underneath shows how three-dimensional these murals are. See the prickly pear blossoms and the hummingbird's wing?

Next, the west end: first, entering Macy's and next, leaving it:

On to the south center, entering the food court:

And, last, the east end: entering Sears and leaving it:

I took the photo tour on February 5th. Next time, we'll start our second thousand entries!

Jos' Good Ole Tom's mural by night

This blog has plenty of photos of the gorgeous set of murals by Jos Villabrille at the new Good Ole Tom’s location just east of Wilmot on Broadway. The most recent photos were by Mark Fleming on August 31st.

A few times I've published photos of murals by night (such as Murals by Moonlight). Yesterday evening I drove by Good Ole Tom’s and saw that the murals were (partly) lit. Here's the east side of the building:

(The lights look brighter in that photo than they do when you're seeing the mural in person.)

More of the Murals by Jos at Good Ole Tom's

Back on April 26, I posted photos of Jos Villabrille’s work in progress (and a couple of Jos doing the work) at the new Good Ole Tom’s location just east of Wilmot on Broadway.

One week ago (August 24), Mark Fleming sent his photos of this gorgeous building. As always, Mark: Thanks from me and from everyone who enjoys this blog.

Let's see them! First, though, I'll re-post my photo of the front of the store back in April.

This first photo shows the front (left side) of the east wall. The second photo shows the rest of it:

I don't have a good overall photo of the west wall, but I can tell that some of these photos are from there. If you notice that any of the others below belong to a different wall, please send me email so I can move them. (Thanks!)

Murals being made, part 20: Jos at Tucson Mall

You'll catch busy Jos Villabrille painting murals all over town. This spring, I found Jos (and met him for the first time) as he painted the new Good Ole Tom's location at Broadway & Wilmot. A couple of weeks ago, I met him on River Road. Yesterday, I was walking into a southwestern entrance to Tucson Mall. (Click there for a Google Map showing the mall, with a green arrow at the spot where the first — geotagged — photo was taken.)

This “murals being made” series shows any mural I find around Tucson that's in the process of being painted. (If you want to see more of the series, type murals being made into the search box at the right side of any page.) Jos seems to be working all around Tucson! He wasn't at Tucson Mall when I walked by his murals yesterday. I snapped a couple of photos, anyway.

The mural on the map above — the one nearest the entrance — looked only part-finished yesterday (around noon Friday):

The mural facing the parking lot looked finished — to my eyes, at least:

Thanks, Tucson Mall (and Jos!) for more great Sonoran Desert murals.

Jos wraps (up) Good Ole Tom's: murals being made, part 18

If you've been reading this blog for a while, you've seen Catch Jos at work! (Murals being made, part 16) two months ago. He (Jos Villabrille, of Murals by Jos) is one of Tucson's most popular muralists. He does beautiful work that you've seen all over town. (The photo I showed in that entry is to the right.)

I wrote that February 28th post after driving by the corner of Broadway & Wilmot (actually, by 6305 E. Broadway), where Good Ole Tom's was about to open a new store. They'd hired Jos to paint their building. As time went on (and, I'm guessing, they saw what great work he was doing), they asked him to wrap their building in murals — even the windows at the front and east sides. Jos worked there until earlier this month: I drove by as he was finishing the front windows, but didn't have a chance to snap photos then. When I stopped by earlier this week, the person I spoke with said that she believed he was finished.

Here are the photos I've taken over the past two months. Notice how he uses parts of the building (for instance, the downspouts) as parts of the murals. The first photo below, and the photos on March 26th, show the right-front windows. After Jos had painted some of them, they were broken... so he had to re-paint the murals there after the glass was replaced. The last photos, on April 26th, show the just-completed front windows and the back (north) side, too. If you'd like to jump to shots I took on a particular date, click one of the dates here:

Update (August 31, 2013): there are many more photos in today's post.
